subject: Should You Consider Travelling To Singapore For Your Holidays? [print this page] Free from colonial rule, Singapore is now a thriving holiday destination pulling in millions of tourists from all around the world each year. This island, just to the south of Malaysia, has so much to offer for people of all ages, and is definitely well worth a visit.
The one negative thing about Singapore is that it is one of the more expensive holiday destinations. Hotel accommodation is quite expensive, even for the most basic of hotels, and everything else is quite expensive as well when compared to a lot of countries in the western world.
However that shouldn't necessarily put you off coming to this popular Asian country because if this is a factor, you can simply go for a shorter stay of say one week or ten days, for example, rather than two or three weeks. Alternatively you could stop here and sample the country for a few days on the way to another neighbouring country.
Singapore really does have a lot to offer. For a start it is one of the best countries to visit if you are interested in shopping. Not only does it have lots of street stalls around the whole city, but it also has some really impressive shopping malls where you can buy all the latest electronic equipment as well as products from all the biggest brand names.
Also because it is close to the equator, it has a very agreeable climate. It's not perfect by any means because there is lots of rainfall throughout the year, particularly in December and January, but it has lots of hot sunny days as well each month.
Singapore can boast a variety of different attractions. Due to it's ethnic diversity, there are plenty of temples and other religious buildings that you can visit, as well as areas of the city such as Little India and Chinatown that will give you a really wonderful cultural experience.
There are also lots of museums and monuments that you might like to check out, and if you get bored with the hustle and bustle of the main city centre, you can always take an excursion to another less crowded part of the island. You could even go to a few of Singapore's beaches, or take a trip to some of the small surrounding islands that are all part of Singapore.
Overall I would say that Singapore is definitely worth a visit, despite being one of the more expensive holiday destinations. There are undoubtedly cheaper places to visit in Asia, but Singapore is a really modern country that is developing really quickly, and now has so much to offer.
