subject: Life Is A Beach On Chaweng Beach [print this page] If you've heard the phrase 'life's a beach' then it couldn't fit anywhere more than Chaweng Beach on the Thai island of Koh Samui. A holiday here stirs up a mood of total delight and the phrase 'life's a beach' is perfect.
Chaweng Beach extends an impressive seven magnificent miles and is located in the north eastern part of Koh Samui. The island's most fashionable tourist quarter means that it is also the most developed and you'll find everything needed for a holiday in the sultry sun - water sports, a broad range of dining opportunities and a lively night scene.
It's very easy to find peace and tranquility here too, away from the busy bars, fast food eateries and souvenir shops you'll discover places of calm without the blare of music and whine of jetski's. Hotels and resorts line the beach but at the north and south ends it's much quieter. South of Chaweng Beach is little Chaweng with just a few hotels and restaurants so if you want somewhere away from the crowded areas then head here.
Beach Road is the main part of Chaweng and the location of most of the popular bars, clubs, restaurants, and shops. During the day the heat gives the area a sleepy feel however as soon as the sun goes down it's transformation into a gratification zone is like magic. Have a coffee at Starbucks or eat at a simple roadside food stall, take a walk around the streets and soak up the buzz, or go clubbing - the choices are limitless.
Shopping for souvenirs is also good on the Beach Road and you can find t-shirts, inexpensive jewellery and other bits and pieces such as soap carvings, hippy-style bags, shoes and hats. Tailors from the sub-continent hustle for trade and offer to make you a suit in a day.
Returning to the beach the swimming is ideal as the water is warm and calm, sunbathe on a sun lounger and sample fresh coconut juice, the vendors will hew them open there and then, simply add a straw and let the sweetness quench your thirst.
Also on the beach are masseuse offering the ultimate relaxation with oil and foot massages, they walk the beach offering their services either under the shaded trees or right there on your sunlounger, always agree a price beforehand.
There are hawkers selling all sorts of goods and services on the beach, from ice cream and a cold beer, hair braiding and henna tattoos, there's no need to move from your chair as they'll come to you.
For the more energetic amongst you then why not have a go at jet-skiing, take a banana boat ride, or go water skiing, windsurfing or parasailing. Or the more ambitious might like to attend diving school and learn scuba from qualified instructors, or try your hand at Thai boxing if you have the courage.
The scope of Koh Samui hotels in Chaweng is broad offering everything from basic beachside huts to luxurious 5 star resorts, these days boutique hotels are a popular choice for their unique style of interior decoration and quality of personal service, and spa resorts which offer an array of spa and beauty packages combined with sumptuous lodgings.
Some mourn the changes in Chaweng from the original sleepy cove to the present day busy holiday-maker town, however the fact remains that tourists need facilities and Samui can provide these. There is everything here you could possibly want for a great holiday and the island is quick and convenient to reach by ferry or airplane.
