Look away from the usual department stores and browse specialist boutiques or British independent stores where you can find individual pieces which your recipient will cherish for the fact that none of their friends can possibly have the same thing.
A more personal gift could be a beautiful photo frame with a photo of a treasured memory in it. This could be of the two of you or a group of you from the past twelve months or from years ago. As we become more reliant on computers fewer people get photos developed and this would most definitely be a welcome gift. It will also remind them of what an excellent friend you are every time they see the photo!
If your trouble friend is a traveller then a travel wash bag, filled with gorgeous luxury miniature wash products is always a great option. If they already have a travel wash bag then they can just use the miniature products and if not then you have solved two problems in one! They trick here is not to go for the usual ranges available in every department store in town. You need to find a more unique brand which they will really appreciate and which fits the criteria of luxury and individual. If you are feeling extra generous you could get them a luxury boutique perfume and the wash bag set with the same scent!
