ADVENTURE COMICS #12

'PLAYING HOOKY'

Paul Levitz brings a tale of Superboy and the Legion of Super-heroes. This month he is showcasing his writing talents with tales of Superboy, Superman Beyond (Superman/Batman Annual #4), and the Legion of Super-heroes in three different separate titles.

The issue opens up in the late 20th century with Jonathan and Martha Kent discussing where has Clarkgone off to. Jonathan Kent really adds value to this seen as he is no longer alive after he sacrificed himself for Martha in the pages of Action Comics.

Brainiac 5 takes Superboy where he can be himself and do the things he couldn't do in Smallville. Like flying around and seeing the city of the future, testing his limits by travelling into space, playing baseball without holding back, and kissing a girl without his glasses. We get a nice perspective of the 30th century from Superboy.

Paul Levitz has a great handle of Superboy's powers by describing how he is stronger and faster due space having resistance and the sun.Levitz also gave himself a great setup for the next issue of Adventure Comics as we will discover how the Legion of Super-heroes was founded. Definitely following this series when it returns to its original numbering next month.

RECOMMENDED - 4 OUT OF 5
