When it comes to Christmas decorating we all have a tendency to repeat the same thing every year. This year there are so many new items to choose from that we may want a little change without spending a lot of money.
The first thing would be to have a plan. Know what you have on hand and see if you can incorporate them in a new theme. Most of the homes are outlined in some way with Christmas lights and you could very easily keep these and just add a few new additions. Think about adding a green wreath with a big red bow in each window. How simple yet elegant, adding a peaceful look to any home. To that you may want to add a candle in the window, making sure the candle looks as if it's inside the wreath. There is a variety of window candles on the market today and the newer ones are battery operated that can be turned on by a timer or a light sensor. A luminary along a pathway or driveway is another way to welcome guests to your home. Inflatables have become very popular and come in most holiday motifs. A Santa, snowman, reindeer etc. can add a touch of whimsy to your holiday decorations and bring a smile to all who pass by. The Nativity scene is still one of the most popular, as it represents the meaning of the season. Whatever you choose, start with a plan. Think ahead to next year and determine what you can add to further your overall theme, and then watch for after holiday sales and store them till next year. You will not only have added a new item, but saved a lot of money in the process.
Inside our home we should make an effort to clear out some of the items that are not really needed during the holiday season. The Christmas tree is usually the focal point and can be decorated to coordinate with the rest of the room. Make the holiday spirit come alive by decorating every room with fresh greenery so the aroma can drift throughout your home. If fresh greenery is not available add some scented candles like balsam, cinnamon, sugar cookie or vanilla.
Glass bowls filled with glass ornaments placed on side tables or used as a centrepiece will add a holiday sparkle. Don't forget to carry your decorating into the bathrooms. Purchase a flameless candle and add some greenery, some ornaments and your powder room will not only have a holiday feel, but it will be safe and softly lit. A big wreath with a big red bow over your mantel and greenery with lights on the mantel is a very striking effect. Candles everywhere adds a glow to your home where table lamps maybe too harsh. Your holiday cards can be hung over the doorways for an eye catching display.
