subject: Travel Tips About Where To Go In Andorra [print this page] Andorra is mountainous, traversed by a main road country, which runs roughly north-east to south-west, alongside which most from the settlements are to be found. Many of these are villages or hamlets with Romanesque churches and houses constructed in the local design offer good hotels in Andorra, and offer spectacular views across the rugged countryside. To the guest, even now, Andorras two most significant attractions are that it is both a duty free state along with a heart for wintertime sports, and all this as well as the modern hotels in Andorra, tends to make the region preferred for visiting by a number of tourists each year. Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany are the most famous cities in Andorra.
Andorra la Vella, the countrys capital, lies on the junction of two mountain streams. Sights there contain a good 12th-century church and the Casa de la Vall, the traditional seat of government. Here are located probably by far the most high category hotels in Angora.
Adjoining the capital is the spa town of Escaldes-Engordany which also has examples of Romanesque architecture. These towns are also the heart of the colorful Andorran regional festival in early September, in honor of the Virgin of Meritxell. Approximately 18km (11 miles) from Escaldes-Engordany, off the leading road, is the hamlet of El Serrat, which commands a breathtaking view throughout the mountains. The city of Encamp, between the capital and the French frontier, can also be well worth a visit.
Ski resorts
You'll find several ski resorts, most of which deliver excellent facilities and hotels in Andorra. The largest center is Soldeu, the initial main settlement in the road following the French frontier at Port dEnvalira. Both nursery slopes and skiing for intermediates are available, with a good ski school providing tuition at acceptable prices.
There are also ski centers at Pas de la Casa-Grau Roig, at the French frontier, and at Ordino-Arcalis and Arinsal-Pal, all north of Andorra la Vella. Cross-country skiing is accessible to the resort of La Rabassa.
