subject: Email Spamming Is Not Marketing [print this page] Desperate for traffic? Avoid email spamming at all cost because spamming is illegal and may get you into trouble.
What is email spamming?
Email spamming is when you send advertisements to strangers without their permission. Yes, you can send ads via email, but you must obtain their permission before doing so. This is also known as permission based marketing. In addition, there must also be an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email that you send out. This link allows those who do not wish to continue receiving emails from you to opt out.
Email spamming usually ignores all the rules. The emails are harvested from the Internet using software. Such software are known as email harvesters. The software scans the web pages for valid emails, and plonk them into a database. Using such methods, the database can grow to contain millions of emails.
A spammer will then send out an email message to the entire database, promoting his or her offer. Usually, the conversion rate for the offer is very low because the audience is untargeted. However, due to the large number of people receiving the emails broadcast, a small number of sales can still be made. Depending on the offer, the profit can be several hundred dollars, up to a couple of thousand dollars.
However, remember that everyone hates a spammer. Spammers have to work very quickly because others tend to catch up with them pretty quickly. Their ISP may ban their account. Their web hosting service provider may shut down their website due to complains. And in the worst case scenario, the police may come looking for them.
Therefore, experienced spammers make sure that the emails get sent out very quickly, before their accounts get shut down. They also try, as hard as possible, to hide their footprints so that others cannot trace the spam emails back to them. For example, they may be sending the emails from a public Internet network using a laptop. They may also be connected to the Internet through a proxy, which helps to mask their real IP address.
Anyone who wants to consider spamming has to consider the consequences. If caught, these people have to face stiff fines. The question is, for the several hundred dollars that they may be earning, is it worth it to go to all that trouble just to send out a spam email?
So if you want to go into email marketing, please play by the rules. Set up a proper squeeze page and give away something for free in exchange for their emails. Sign up with a legitimate autoresponder to collect all the email addresses. An autoresponder cost no more than $20 a month to sign up.
You may then setup the autoresponder to send out follow up emails automatically so that you can make money even while you are asleep. Now you can sleep with peace of mind without having to worry about the authorities breathing down your neck! Resist the temptation to resort to email spamming.
