On a Monday evening, my husband and I sprung for the Ninja Hibachi Dinner for Two, featuring steak, jumbo shrimp and chicken. Actually, this is a full meal with salad, soup, fried rice and noodles for $40.Opting for the hibachi room means you are randomly seated with other folks to maximize the grill use. We were fortunate to be paired up with a young couple with 8-month-old Charlotte and the husband's sister, a doting aunt.Drink orders were promptly filled, and we all had similar hibachi selections. Soup and salad were served simultaneously; then chef Kevin "The Banana" rolled in his prep cart, and the entertainment began.Clanging utensils, surges of flame and zucchini tosses enthralled Charlotte. The opening number was a three-egg omelet, which Kevin sliced, diced and gently mixed with white rice and other vegetables cooked on the sizzling surface. Once that mixture was under way, Kevin tossed on the chicken, followed by shrimp and steak according to our preferences.Kevin continued to chat us up as the selections cooked. On busy weekend nights, he sometimes does seven or eight of these grilling performances. As the meat finished, Kevin sliced it all up small enough for those who wanted to use chopstick s.While we were enjoying the final course of the meal, Kevin finished the show by cleaning the grill with yet another flourish of lighted vodka. We lingered a bit , enjoying the ambiance of the grill room before leaving with ample leftovers.Manager TJ Aw is so excited about this new location and pleasing her customers. While hibachi dining is particularly memorable, Ninja also offers lunch and dinner bento boxes that are packed with an assortment of soup, salad, rice and meat or fish for eat-in or take- out.Folks are sometimes a bit intimidated by foreign food dining, but there is so much familiar at Ninja - vegetables, shrimp, salmon, scallops, steak, chicken, pork and lobster - it'd be a shame to pass up the opportunity to explore this bit of Japan here in North Suffolk.
