A bout that was initially slated to headline UFC 106 last November was put on hold after Lesnar suffered a career threatening intestinal disorder called diverticulitis. Brock Lesnar(4-1),the reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion, took his long fight lay-off due to his intestinal ailment that almost cause him an entire year of absence inside the Octagon. Until now, many still doubted him that he is not 100% healthy when he fight at UFC 116. Both are coming into this fight with remarkable credentials. Brock Lesnar is the UFC Heavyweight Champion, while Shane Carwin is the Interim Champion. They were committed to fight at UFC 108, but Lesnar was diagnosed with a critical illness and had to recover. Since then, Carwin defeated Frank Mir (the only person to have defeated Lesnar) to claim the Interim title.
Shane Carwin has hands of steel. Period! Not only can he hit harder than Lesnar, but he also has similar credentials when you consider both fighters were NCAA National Wrestling Champions as well as superb athletes on the gridiron. Carwin fought his first eight fights in organizations outside the Octagon, where he would become the Ring of Fire' Heavyweight Champion in the fight prior to signing with the UFC. After his MMA debut went 2:11 into the first round, Carwin didn't allow another fight past the two-minute mark until his most recent fight against Frank Mir (3:48 of round one) and every victory has come via knockout (or TKO submissions').
