The minute you think of safari destinations, the The national park National Park in South Africa is one of the spots that people today automatically think of. It is situated in the north east corner of South Africa straddling Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces. Kruger covers an area roughly the size of Israel and provides a wildlife experience that is looked upon as the most desirable in Africa.
The The national park National Park was established in the late 1800s to help look after the wildlife living in the Lowveld. The range and diversity of species found right here is awesome with about 330 types of tree, 500 bird species and nearly 150 animals.
The nearest airport to The national park will depend upon which region of the National Park you intend to take a trip to. Hoedspruit Airport serves the north of the park while Kruger/Mpumalanga International Airport serves the south. Both of those airports have very good internal connections from Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. On the other hand, it's possible to travel up from Joburg. For the southern gates, follow the N4 to Nelspruit / Mbombela and from there, Kruger National Park is sign posted. Driving time is about 4-5 hours. More time should really be allowed if you are driving to the northern gates of Kruger national park.
There are several possible choices for visitors to The park. Day outings are to be had from nearby towns such as Hazyview. Self drive travellers are also welcome but there is a limit on visitor numbers which means it is best to pre-book.
There are 9 entrance gates to Kruger national park and enough travelling time needs to be allowed as entrance gate and restcamp gates are shut during the night. Entry to Kruger National Park won't be authorized after dark and there are several other park rules to which visitors must abide by.
There are several camps and facilities within Kruger including restcamps, bushveld camps, overnight hides, bush lodges and luxury lodges. There is plenty to see in the park along with the Big Five (Buffalo, Elephant, Leopard, Lion and Rhino) and the iconic Baobab tree.
