The Real Ale Brewery was founded in 1996 by the Connor family; parents Philip and Diane and son Charles. The origins of the brewery began in the basement of an antique shop located in the Blanco town square featuring three original brews: Rio Blanco Pale Ale, Full Moon Pale Rye Ale, and the Brewhouse Brown Ale. In 1998, the Connor family had made a decision to get out of the brewing industry and sold the brewhouse to one of their biggest fans, Brad Farbstein. During the course of Brad's first year as the new brewery owner he made approximately 500 barrels of delicious ale with the help of a few friends. As popularity and interest grew in the ale being produced by the brewery, Brad relocated the brewhouse to a new location in Blanco where since then he has been able to meet the supply and demands of clients, restaurants, and other businesses.
According to the Real Ale Brewery Company, their current cellar produces 30,000 barrels of fine ale annually. On a daily average and with the equipment they now operate with, the brewery produces 1,200 cases daily. Year round the brewery makes and distributes their Brewhouse Brown Ale, Rio Blanco Pale Ale, Full Moon Pale Rye Ale, Firemans #4 Blonde Ale, and Extra Special Bitter. Seasonal ales include the Phoenix Double Extra Bitter, Devil's Backbone, Lost Gold IPA, and Shade Grown Coffee Porter.
