Most people that know anything about the Costa del Sol will also know the name Puerto Banus. Like many of the larger resorts on the Costa del Sol Puerto Banus started life as a small working fishing port looking very different from the glamour it has these days.
Jose Banus decided to develop this small fishing village into a chic playground for the rich and famous and something that would directly compete with St Tropez in Southern France.
Puerto Banus is a glamorous port located about 15 minutes from central Marbella and quickly became a stylish marina with some of the areas finest restaurants, bars, clubs and shop. Super yachts started to appear and before long the marina was constantly filled with some of the world's most expensive yachts and some of the leading businessmen and celebrities. Of course with this being a regular crowd it is no wonder that shops like Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Jimmy Choo and other top designer brands set up shop along the frontline of the port.
As you walk along the frontline of the port, not only do you have the best shops and restaurants on one side, some amazing yachts on the other, you often need to jump on the curb as the top Ferraris and Lamborghinis cruise around and around the port in what has become a pastime for some of the owners.
Eating out in Puerto Banus is an event of its own with an amazing array of top quality restaurants. Deciding what and where to eat is the hardest decision as there are just so many choices. Finding somewhere with direct views to the marina is one of the best options so you can join the throngs of other diners people watching' while they eat.
