You may have noticed two similar model numbers of Cisco 3750E switches :
-- WS-C3750E-48PD -- WS-C3750E-48PD-S or WS-C3750E-48PD-E
--WS-C3750E-48PD-F -- WS-C3750E-48PD-SF or WS-C3750E-48PD-EF - The "F" model for Full
Both are available with standard or enhanced images, so what is the difference?
The "F " model comes standard with an 1150W power supply. The lesser model is 750W. The larger 1150W power supply will send 48 ports with 15.4 watts of POE power per port, which is the same wattage consumption of the new Cisco VOIP phones with color screen (7965G, 7945G). Also, the 1250 access points run well on this model because of their power usage.
The "non-F" model can upgrade later to the more powerul version with a field upgrade, so given all that, you may want to ask before you implement :
-- Do I need to power all the ports to accomodate the newer color phones? Will the older phones work just as well in my enterprise (like 7960G)?
-- Same question for access points ... will the 1242, 1142, etc. access points works as well at the 1252 in my network?
-- Can I mix POE phones/access points and other devices in the same switch. In other words, put desktop servers on one row, and phones on the next? ... and will this save money overall?
-- What is the overall power rating with the devices I need to use?
Regardless of switch, you can purchase with the standard (S) or enhanced (E) image software.
