Pashupatinath Temple, Katmandu:-Pashupatinath temple is the most holiest temple of Nepal which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located on the banks of river Bagmati, Pashupatinath temple is the prestigious seat of national deity Lord Pashupati untill Nepal became a secular country. Like the Varanasi in India, Pashupatinath in Nepal is also considered as the place where one can get Moksha or salvation(released from the cycle of birth and death). Unlike other temples, only Hindu people are allowed to enter this temple. People of other community are asked to view the temple from other bank of river Bagmati. This temple is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Nepal.
Lumbini:- Famous as the birth place of Lord Buddha, Lumbini is another sacred site in Nepal. Throughout the year Lumbini is throng by the Buddhist followers as this is the centre of Buddhist religion. Located in the Kapilavastu district of Nepal, Lumbini is dotted with several temples such as
Mayadevi temple, a Puskarini or Holy Pond, Lumbini garden, Maha bodhi temple, Bodhi tree etc. Lumbini is also a UNESCO World Heritage Sites, thanks to its historic and religious significance.
Muktinath:-Mutinath is another pilgrimage site of Nepal which is highly revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. Situated at a height of 3, 800 m in the north central part of Nepal, the main shrine of Muktinath is an ancient pagoda - shaped temple. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. There are 108 spouts available in the walls around it. The Jwala Mai temple, located nearby to Multinath has a spring and an eternal flame fed by natural gas.
Balmiki Ashram:- Located on the banks of Tribeni river, Balmiki Ashram is another famous Hindu pilgrimage site in Nepal. This ashram which belongs to the great sage of Ramayana epic is located at the south-western corner of Royal Chitwan National Park. Thanks to the archaeological excavation taken place in the late 60's, it is now believed that Devi Sita has lived here with her two sons Luv and Kusha. Recently, a temple of Mata Sita has been built here.
Other pilgrimage sites of Nepal are Devghat, Gosaikund etc. So, a pilgrimage trip to Nepal is must to witness these holy places.
