subject: Christmas: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year? [print this page] Christmas: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year?
Christmas, "the most wonderful time of the year" can be the most stressful time of the year. Was Christmas originally about money? No, it wasn't. It was about joy and freedom things we all strive for.
How was "the most wonderful time of the year" about joy and freedom? The angel in the gospel said, "Fear not. I bring you good tidings of great joy (translates as "the gospel") which shall be to all people." He said good news and great joy to all people.
What great joy and what freedom? The Savior (or Redeemer) is born in the city of David. Saved (or redeemed) from what? From oppressionfrom slaveryfrom bondage. Sounds like "modern day" joy and freedom from the stress of debt and from bullies (i.e., at school, on the job). The joy and freedom of "peace on earth, goodwill toward men." Now that's something to celebrate.
Sadly, the "most wonderful time of the year" has become the most stressful time of the year due to over commercialization of the Christmas holiday. Times are especially hard right now due to the economy. Let's try to focus on the original message of Christmas: joy and freedom things we all strive for by appreciating the most important aspect of Christmas, which is time with friends and family in the free land of America. The things that matter most are things that money cannot buy.
