subject: Drop Shipping Review [print this page] Drop shipping is a great way to make money online without a large up front investment. Since you do not need to stock inventory, you can go straight to marketing and selling your products. Your supplier ships straight to the customer and you get your cut. Simple enough, right? Unfortunately, drop shipping has gotten very complicated due to loads of scammers and middlemen that have flooded the internet. The majority of the "drop shippers" that you find online these days are not wholesale suppliers at all, but rather a middleman, often in a chain of suppliers. By the time you buy the product, its been marked up several times and your profit margins are crushed. Many times you're also paying monthly fees to access inventory and paying all kinds of other bogus fees as well.
The truth is, real wholesale suppliers do not charge you anything to sell their products. Nothing. If you're paying monthly fees or drop shipping fees of any kind, you can be almost certain you're dealing with a middleman. The real trick to drop shipping is finding a legitimate and unique supplier and working out a deal with them. You can just go with the same generic drop shipper that everyone else is using, its too hard to compete. If you use the popular services like Doba, you're going to find yourself buried in competition. Those products are everywhere, and there's really no reason for a customer to buy from you over anyone else. You won't be able to win on price either.
If you really want to make money, you'll need to find a quality niche product source. Provide extra value to customers with customer service, reviews, and extra information. Don't think you can just go to eBay and start flipping iPods to become the next internet millionaire. It's not going to happen. Come up with a strong marketing and business plan, and execute it. Drop shipping is like any other business, it requires careful planning and execution. It's not nearly as simple as some of these scammers will lead you to believe. You can't just head over to eBay and load up your inventory and watch it fly off the shelves like they say. In fact, the vast majority of new drop shippers fail miserably.
The ones who succeed are the ones who have a plan. Source quality products from a legitimate wholesaler or manufacturer, have a way to get them in front of customers, and provide value to get the customer coming back. Have you ever heard of the 80/20 rule? 80% of your business will come from 20% of your customers. It is no different in the drop shipping world. Flipping a digital camera on eBay for a $3 dollar profit is not going to get you rich. Providing a helpful and simple shopping experience to your customers will keep them coming back. Find your audience, source your product, and get it in front of them. It may seem simple, but that it is not.
