Tips To Get Last Minute Cheap Flights

The best way to get a cheap fare for your airline ticket is to buy in advance. The further up in advance you buy, the cheaper your ticket will be. The general rule is if you purchase your ticket three weeks in advance, you should get a cheap ticket. The price goes up at 14 days, then up again at 7 days. If you want to get a cheap ticket, book your ticket early.

But what if you miss your chance to buy your ticket in advance. Can you still get last minute cheap flights? We do not always know when we are going to need to fly and sometimes we need a ticket now. Well theres good news. Ticket prices will go up the closer it gets to the time of the flight, but, if airlines have seats left when it gets closer to take off, they will sell these seats for a discounted price.

One of the best ways to do get last minute cheap flights used to be by flying stand by. Flying stand by means that you do not have a seat reserved on the plane. But if they are about to take off with empty seats, you will be able to by a seat at a greatly reduced rate. This used to be a terrific way to fly, but airlines have generally stopped this practice although there are a few airlines who still let you fly stand by. If you cant find an airline that lets you fly stand by there are still other options.

Using a bidding site like hotwire or price line can get you a great deal on last minute cheap flights. Bidding sites like these are constantly updated. If a flight has only days or hours before take off, and still has a lot of seats left, you will probably see a drop in price.
