Cleveland CG12 Black Pearl Wedge Review

Since the 1970's Cleveland has topped the industry with their wedge technology. CG12 wedges featuring the "Zip Grooves" technology, creates the deepest grooves found on any previous Cleveland model. The idea is to create more spin and control from any lie on the course. The leading portion of the sole is narrower and has a high bounce angle so you can get a good grip on the ball from the tight fairway shots to wet trap shots. (Cleveland CG12 Black Pearl Wedge) One of the defining features of the CG12 is the heavier weight, differentiating it from other leading wedge brands. The heavier weight helps feel distance on short shots and chips, putting you closer to the hole all day.

The 2008 Cleveland CG12 wedges are milled from an 8612 carbon steel. The new CG 12 Black Pearl wedges have a classic design with advanced manufacturing processes. On each CG12 wedge, the grooves are milled to maximum conforming dimensions using a proprietary CNC mill bit to create envelope-stretching geometry. To improve shot consistency, the new groove geometry was coupled with an innovative plating process - making ZIP Grooves Cleveland Golfs most consistent, precise, and visible wedge technology to date.

The Cleveland CG12 wedge is made from 8620 carbon steel and combines classic wedge design with advanced manufacturing process, (Cleveland CG15 black pearl wedge) which have led to the latest breakthrough in wedge technology known as ZIP Grooves. This new ZIP Groove technology has given the Cleveland CG12 wedge the biggest and most precisely milled grooves ever offered in a Cleveland wedge. ZIP Grooves are milled to maximum conforming dimensions using a proprietary CNC mill bit that creates envelope-stretching geometry for added shot consistency. During the manufacturing process, each Zip Grooves' integrity is maintained by the application of a proprietary coating for added protection throughout the critical face sandblasting phase of production. The Cleveland CG12's unique milling process not only helps to optimize spin but also gives players of any level improved distance control. Their larger groove volume, which helps channel more debris than wedges with traditional grooves, allows for increased club face contact with the ball.

The Cleveland CG12 wedge continues Cleveland Golf's tradition of having the most comprehensive selection of bounce options. (Cleveland Launcher Driver) Every player, whether professional or amateur, has a complete selection available to optimize impact for every swing and playing condition. The Low, Std, and High Bounce options are clearly displayed with the same 3 dot system used on all CG series wedges (1 dot = low bounce, 2 dots = std bounce, 3 dots = high bounce). In addition, the bounce value (measured in degrees) is engraved on each hosel providing players with even more information to help the selection process.
