Send Money to US States Other Than Yours Using Innumerable Options

You also probably understand the banking policies of most United States banks, even the ones you have not been to. However, sending money from state to state presents myriad choices, so think about your options before you send any money.

One of the first routes that will probably come to mind is using a bank to transfer funds. In most cases, you just need the recipient's name, bank name, and bank account number. If you want to send money to USA states other than yours, and the recipient is your friend or family member, this should not be a problem. In fact, you can perform the transaction online in most cases. This is called a wire transfer, and you can expect a fee of anywhere from $10 to $30. For example, Bank of America charges $25 for domestic wires.

Some banks still require you to come into the nearest location to send money. If you do this, know that you can present cash or ask that the amount be debited from your checking account. Again, fees will apply, usually depending on your bank. Note that many U.S. banks charge slightly less if you want to use cash for the transaction rather than a debit.

Some American banks have specific programs just for sending money online. Chase QuickPay is free as long as you register. In fact, you can send money to USA accounts in other states, even to other banks, as long as you or your recipients have a Chase checking account. If you and your recipient are both customers at Wells Fargo, you can even transfer money from your phone to another Wells Fargo account. Instead of account numbers, the mobile banking service uses nicknames so no personal information is given out, and the service is free.

In many cases, when you send money to USA states, you do not know the person. Perhaps you have just bought something online, for example. Most people would not feel comfortable giving you their checking account number or even their full name. For this purpose, there are some businesses online that do not require such information. Instead, as long as you each have an account with that business, you can send money online. Most transfers that will be completed in one day cost anywhere from $15 to $40, which fluctuates depending on the amount, while those that take a few days cost about $10.

Technically, since all the states use the U.S. dollar, you could send a personal check. However, it could take days to arrive and then a few more days to clear, and many people are wary of checks now. Furthermore, banks are not helpful if your recipient does not have a bank account. A prepaid debit card could solve the issue, as you could send it to your intended recipient's address, and then add money to it whenever you need to. This is especially useful if you need to add money often, or when the amount is high, as the fee is a flat $5 every time. Considering the number of ATMs that abound in the United States, this could be very convenient for friends or family who need to withdraw cash. They could also use it as a debit card at stores nationwide.

Your decision of how to send money to USA states will likely depend on how easy, fast, and cheap the method is. Clearly, as long as you and your recipient both have bank accounts, there are many options. If either one of you does not have an account, transferring funds is no more difficult than sending a prepaid debit card.
