Springtime Is The Ideal Time To Plan Your Garden

After a long and drawn out winter, many of us are turning our attention to the soon to come warmer weather that the spring season promises. If you are beginning to get a touch of spring fever yourself now that the temperatures are rising a bit, perhaps you should plan your garden ideas for the upcoming season.

If you have a garden plot already that you use from year to year, then that is great. You most likely only need to plan what you will be growing this year and order your seeds, netting and any other garden essentials that you find necessary. Maybe you would like to think about adding some new garden fencing around your flowers and vegetables that will keep animals and children away and give your garden a charming and neat look. There are all types of garden fences to choose from including wood, wire and even vinyl fencing. Be sure to plan for a gate as well as you will want easy access to the garden. A gate also offers some security as you can always add a padlock if your garden is located out of the sight of your house.

Many people with limited space in their yards choose to make use of vertical growing systems. This type of system works well in small yards as it does on porches, decks and patios. The most basic type of vertical gardening system consists of stacking pots on a tower that allows for very high density production in a rather limited amount of room. All types of vegetables thrive when grown in this manner such as tomatoes, strawberries, peppers, ivy, parsley, corn and eggplant. The pots are normally insulated to protect the plants from extreme temperature variations.

If you are growing strictly vegetables, there is always the risk of animals wandering into the area and eating your crop. Many vegetable gardeners have been given incredible shocks when they return to their gardens to find them completely wiped out by hungry deer. If you have ever lost a good portion of your crop to wildlife, then you should think about purchasing and installing a vegetable garden fence. The fence can be made of wood or it can be a chain link fence-just as long as the holes and spaces are small enough to keep animals out. Also, be sure that you build the fence high enough so that deer cannot jump over it.
