When preparing for the new baby, a baby stroller is high on the list of "must-haves." Though strollers are a popular baby shower gifts, the hostesses or several in the family get together and chip in and purchase that high priced gift for you, however that may not be a particularly good idea.
Choosing and buying a stroller is a very personal choice and should be researched and well thought out. You'll probably use your stroller a lot, and your baby will spend a lot of time in it. You should love the one you buy.
Here are some things you should consider when trying to find the best stroller for your family. There are four basic types of strollers: Full-sized, Modular or Mid-sized, Lightweight or Umbrella, and Specialty Strollers, such as a Jogging or a stroller for multiple children.
Most people find that they need a modular or mid-sized stroller for long walks and shopping trips and a lightweight or umbrella stroller for the shorter trips, like a quick trip to the market. If you can find an easy to use and fold (easy to handle), somewhat lighter mid-size or modular stroller, you may only need one stroller, which will allow you to buy a more expensive model with more features.
Only you can determine what type stroller you need. If you need a specialty stroller you are probably already searching for that 'right' one. If you are still reading, you are probably trying to determine whether you need both a full- to mid-sized stroller and a lightweight stroller or can purchase a higher quality stroller that will serve for both. Logic says if you can purchase a more expensive stroller with more features and is of better quality, you will be much happier with your stroller.
Which brings us to the next determinate... the price. Yes, let's face it, price does matter. You can buy a really inexpensive stroller and find it doesn't have the functionality you need or the quality and you end up having to buy another. So price-wise, here is the bottom line:
Lightweight Strollers will run anywhere from $70-$300, with an average stroller running about $150. Lightweight strollers will not last as long as Modular or Mid-size Strollers but if you rarely use your stroller or are going to have a second stroller for those long walks or shopping trips that a lightweight, easy to fold stroller would make sense.
Modular or Mid-size Strollers will run from about $400-$800, with an average running about $550. Though somewhat heavier, many of these strollers can be used for those short trips to the store without having to sacrifice too much space in the trunk of the car and without feeling you're lugging around a huge travel trunk.
Full Size Strollers will run well over $1000 for even the most economical model and are for those parents with have limitless space for storage, limitless funds, and all day long to cart them about.
