You might consider buying a bicycle, scooter or taking the subway if you are lucky enough to live in a city that has a subway. You'll also have to cover your daily food expenses. Hopefully you can see that there are many initial upfront expenses you will have to make once you arrive in Taiwan. Most schools pay you on the 5th of the following month, so you will have to wait a few extra days before you can collect your pay check.

Bringing as much money as you can means you won't have to worry if for some reason you are faced with unexpected expenses.
