subject: How To Check Your Email Online To Keep On Top Of Everything [print this page]

If your job requires that you are on the road a lot, the chances are that you are often pressed for time. Keeping in touch with the home office and your clients and even friends and family is certainly something you prioritise. However, it is often difficult to check your email online when you are away from your own computer, especially if you use Outlook Express to read and send mails.

Thankfully, there are tools available to get around this problem. You need to only enable the Remote Desktop application on your main computer and then connect to it from another computer through the feature of the Windows OS. Once you have made a connection, you can run Outlook Express just as you would do at home so that you can check your email online.

The Remote Desktop feature of Windows OS is not enabled by default. So, this means that it must be enabled before you can check your email. In order to do this, you must go to 'my computer' and click on 'properties'. Next click on the 'remote' button and click the box that is labelled 'allow users to connect remotely'. Click 'ok' so that your settings are saved. You have just enabled Remote Desktop so that you can check your emails from any other computer. It should be noted however, that you will have to leave your home computer running in order for remote desktop to work. When you are at another computer and wish to check your Outlook Express mail box, you must go to the 'all programs' box and then to 'accessories' and 'communications' tabs. Once there, click on 'remote desktop'. You will next need to enter the IP address of your main computer into the box provided in order to connect.

Once you are connected, you must log in using the same user name and password that you use to gain access to your home PC. Once this is done, you will view your own home computer's screen so that you can do whatever you wish - just as if you were sitting in front of your main computer. You can now check your email and also visit all of your favourite bookmarks, social sites, and so on, with ease.

There are also tools available today, which allows users to pick up their email from anywhere. These tools can be easily located on the Internet and are often free, web-based email retrieval applications that can be used from anywhere in order to read emails from nearly every POP3 and IMAPF email servers in existence. You normally are not required to register at these websites in order to take advantage of these services. Many of these applications even support HTML formatted emails so you can view your messages as they were intended to be seen. You are also not limited to plain text any more as you can reply to emails or compose them in Rich Text format or HTML.

It has never been easier nor more convenient to check your email online from virtually anywhere on earth. As long as you have access to the Internet and bit of knowledge and know-how, you can easily stay in close connection with both business associates as well as friends and family when out on the road.
