subject: Think Outside the Box this Halloween [print this page] No matter what time of year it is, it's always time to think about your next Halloween costume - and how you're going to impress all your friends by coming up with your most outrageous costume yet.
While it's sometimes difficult to come up with something truly brilliant, there are several ways to help the ideas flow. One such way is to think about everyday things and then warp them to become scary. For example, imagine Little Red Riding Hood ended up getting mauled by our dear friend the big bad wolf and became Little Dead Riding Hood? Or what if Peter Pan did end up getting old? If you really wanted to shock and disgust, you could always grab a couple of trusting friends and go as The Human Centipede.
Halloween is a great time to let your imagination go wild. From dressing up as your favourite creepy movie characters like Edward Scissorhands, Cruella DeVille or Jack Skellington to finding out what would happen if your favourite celebrity got zombiefied - cue Amy Winehouse jokes here - there's so much you can do that it'll be hard to choose and stick with one.
How about being the victim the shark finally got? You can craft this costume by donning your favourite pair of Speedos and leaping into the mouth of a homemade shark. Alternatively, you can stay up to date with today's horror trends - which, incidentally, seem to be remakes from the past. What with new editions of Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th all hitting the big screen, if your Jason, Freddy or Michael costume was recognisable then it's even more so now. At least it beats the more traditional witch or vampire costume sported by so many - and by all means, avoid going as a cat.
There's definitely a lot of ideas to work with and, if you can't think of much else, you can always surprise people by showing up in an unexpected costume. An adult-size Chucky from Child's Play is going to be a bizarre - and memorable - sight for many people, as is a headless ghost (hint: don't go for true authenticity with this one or things could go very wrong). Whatever you choose when it comes to Halloween costumes, you can rest assured that this year - like every other - is going to be jam-packed with spooky and inventive Halloween fun.
