Count Fleet wound up being one of the best racehorses ever, and he became the prized property of the family of rental vehicle company founder John D. Hertz. The truth is that Hertz didn't feel like Count Fleet would amount to much and has focusing on selling the colt, but jockey Johnny Longden talked him out of it. If it wasn't for the sage advice of Longden, Hertz would not have enjoyed ownership of this legendary animal. Maybe part of the success that Hertz enjoyed in business was also aided by his willingness to listen to the "little people" like his jockey Longden. It is funny how the twists and turns of fate, or what Jung called synchronicity, usually lead us in the right direction. Hertz went on to have the pleasure of cheering for his charge throughout his stellar career as he went on to become a Hall of Famer. The great Count Fleet won the Triple Crown in 1943, and the way that he did it was quite impressive. He galloped home to win the Kentucky Derby by a solid 3 lengths, and then went on to romp to a win in the Preakness Stakes by a commanding 8 lengths. Not content to stop there, he went to Elmont, Long Island, and demolished his foes in the Belmont Stakes, with about twenty-five lengths between him and his nearest competitor. Count Fleet was retired after his 3 years old season due to physical ailments, having won sixteen of twenty-one career starts, and he had fantastic success throughout his career at stud.About the Author:
