subject: Things To Consider When Purchasing A Chandelier [print this page]

Is it fashionable to hang a chandelier? It certainly is and now that the pared down minimalism of the 90s has left us we are free to choose from an astounding range of beautiful chandeliers. There are so many styles to choose from it can be quite daunting knowing where to begin. They come in various shapes and sizes with numerous different finishes and huge variations in price range. If you want a chandelier that will wow you with sparkle a good quality crystal chandelier is what's needed. The play of light off the crystal and the different colours it generates are truly awesome and will provide you with much joy as you look upon it. Be sure to use clear bulbs in your chandelier rather than a pearl one as you achieve more sparkle from your crystal.

In the past chandeliers would have been the only source of light centrally located in the room this is often no longer the case as recessed lights are also used. This means that you have more freedom to select a fitting that you really love rather than the amount of light it will give you. Make sure you use a dimmer switch also so that you can regulate the amount of light for atmosphere. Your chandelier will be just one element in your over all lighting scheme and can look stunning over a dining table or hung from a high ceiling in a hallway. It can work well also to use a chandelier in unexpected areas such as the corner of a room over a small table. Another area you could consider, if you have really high ceilings in your bathroom, is over the bath. It does of course need to comply with the regulations relevant to the country you are in. Another very glamorous option is to use a chandelier either side of the bed as an alternative to bedside lamps.

Chandeliers can look really spectacular in a very minimalist setting as it will really stand out, so don't think that you have to have a traditional style decor to accommodate a chandelier. Also bear in mind when choosing the size of your chandelier that bigger is best. An over sized chandelier will create more drama rather than one that is too small as it will fade into insignificance. You have to consider the height of your ceiling if you are hanging your chandelier in an area where people are walking, it is however possible to buy really stunning chandeliers that are close to ceiling so don't think that because you have a standard height ceiling you cannot have a wow piece suspended from your ceiling.

A great idea to really maximise the sparkle of your chandelier is to have two recessed lights either side of a low hanging pendant directed through the fitting. This will give a stunning effect and will light the floor area below highlighting your flooring. You might need to consider also the practicalities of a chandelier with regard to cleaning and the changing of bulbs but in the general scheme of things if you see a fitting you really love don't let those issues stop you from going for it!
