Make Your Bedroom a Haven for Relaxation

The bedroom is the first thing you see in the morning and the last before you shut your eyes at night. Here are some things that you can do to make this a warm and calming experience without having to break the bank.

Choose a color scheme, and then start by removing any clutter, clear the tops of the furniture in the room. Shop in your house for different lamps that may have the look you desire. You will want to have room to move around, so check the scale of the furniture. If you have two or three dressers, put one in the closet, or remove it altogether. Consider smaller nightstands with drawers at each side of the bed and use their storage for change, keys, cell phones, etc at night.

A nice small sized chaise or overstuffed chair in a corner with a reading lamp on a small table and a lovely throw will suggest a romantic retreat. Add some pillows to the chair; even put some on the floor. Use an area rug in this space to set it off.

If there is a wall across from the bed, get some mirror tiles and create the appearance of space by attaching them to the wall and framing them with molding. Some tiles come with gold designs in them offering an elegant appearance.

Remember the bed, the most important item in the room. Cover your bed with the best quality cotton sheets you can in whatever colors you have chosen. Find a wonderful duvet and a duvet cover that matches the room. Then add lots of pillows, round, square, bolsters, all using many textures that offer interesting contrasts.

Music can be added with a small sound system programmed with favorite pieces. A relaxing scent from aromatherapy oil on cotton balls can be tucked around the room. Of course, flowers will always be welcome. As you get used to treating your bedroom as a sanctuary, other ideas will come to you and the room will help melt away your daily stresses.
