subject: Those seeking holiday villas 'want bargains' [print this page] Britons heading abroad on holiday want to get as much as possible for their money, it has been noted.
Research sponsored by Kelkoo UK revealed that European destinations are particularly popular among those looking for holiday villas and other types of vacation accommodation.
Indeed, villas in Portugal may be especially sought after by UK consumers, with Lisbon cited as the top destination among those polled.
Also featuring high up in the list of desired locations was the Greek capital of Athens.
Of those surveyed, 85 per cent cited affordability as the most important aspect of a break for them.
This put the issue above both security and good weather, which came in second and third positions respectively.
Meanwhile, good food was also important to those seeking holiday villas, the study found.
Responding to the statistics, managing director of Kelkoo UK Bruce Fair said financial concerns among consumers still appear to be dominating the agenda when it comes to picking a vacation.
He remarked: "In the current climate, British holidaymakers seem to be more cost-conscious than ever and the trend for taking shorter but more frequent breaks is still proving popular."
Those heading to places in the euro zone will benefit from increases in the value of pound seen over recent months. These rises came after significant falls, which came as a result of the credit crunch.
However, it is likely that the frugal attitude of Britons concerning their travels abroad will continue as the economic recovery remains on fragile ground and the jobs of many may be at risk due to the austerity measures being implemented by the government in a bid to reduce the fiscal deficit.
For this reason, good value holidays will remain popular among those flying off in search of warmer weather. The days of carefree spending are not yet back for most people.
