Causes Of Climate Change, Probably

We cant possibly be blameless when it comes to climate change, most of us do as we please and that attitude has to have some sort of repercussions. So whether climate change is real or not is actually not the issue, what we need is a shift in attitude if we dont want to be buried under a pile of our own household waste or to be poisoned by a river full of toxic water from the millions of mobile phones we throw away each year, despite the plethora of mobile phone recycling options.

Its important first of all to realise that climate change and global warming are not the same thing, they are not interchangeable and they do mean very different things. Do you remember learning about the differences between weather and climate at school? Nows the time to sift through the grey matter and find that class but put simple, climate change describes not only changes in temperature but also humidity, rainfall and out of season weather anomalies. Global warming simply describes the overall warming of the planet and it seems as though climate change is an effect of this.

Global warming has come about because of human activity, because in order to keep ourselves warm and to power our endless luxury items such as cars, microwaves, kettles and tumble dryers, we are creating far more heat than the earth would naturally produce. Global warming sceptics say that the planet would naturally be getting warmer anyway and theyre not wrong but what they are wrong about is the extent of the increase in temperature. Our enormous emissions of greenhouse gases are warming up the world and causing the seasons to merge and blur and the weather patterns to become increasingly severe.

Think back to the start of the year when we suffered heavy snowfall and sleet on and off for three months, halting traffic and public transport, stopping people from getting to and from work and wreaking havoc on the emergency services and for many, this was a reminder of the snowfall and flooding of 2009. Before this, many prayed for a white Christmas and got one every ten years, the regularity of bad weather now is just a taste of what we could expect in the future if we dont insulate our homes, turn the heating down, install solar panels and use public transport (or God forbid, our feet!).
