subject: Simply Uplifting - Catering For Meetings At Holiday Inn [print this page]

To plan a successful meeting, you need to know that every little detail is taken care of, and this includes the comfort of your delegates. Catering plays an important part in meetings its been proven that refreshment provision has an important role to play in important business decisions, and that the choice available is as important as where it is provided.

The ideal business venue will have an in-house catering service, but this will vary enormously. Quite often, refreshments are limited to a creosote-brown jug of coffee and a platter of wilting sandwiches. This is business catering at its worst. Catering for meetings should encourage bonhomie and creative thinking, not encourage the delegates to go elsewhere.

When you book a conference room for meetings, you expect the best service and that extends to the catering and refreshments. Even if you have opted for a working lunch, it should still be of the same high quality that regular guests enjoy. If the food is only so-so for their personal bookings and guests, it is hardly likely to be any better for those there on business.

As well as being tasty, the catering should be nutritious, freshly prepared and made with unprocessed ingredients. This doesnt mean all lettuce leaves and vegetarian roasts, but there is a worryingly high incidence of heart disease, high blood pressure and Type 2 Diabetes in the UK - especially among business people, who are leading increasingly sedentary lifestyles. While your delegates may not be tempted by the hotel gym, they may well be tempted by a change to the usual catering provision of processed meat sandwiches and artery clogging fats. This is a step that will improve their alertness for meetings as well as their health.

People can improve their performance in meetings in other ways, too. Theres nothing wrong with a dose of caffeine to wake you up, but delegates shouldnt rely on it theres a knock-down effect. Herbal or green tea or just plain water can be refreshing an alternative. Asking for some fresh fruit to be left next to the biscuits helps as well.

The ideal conference catering menu should appeal to all tastes, including those on special diets. It should be light, simple and attractively prepared cuisine tasty food that looks appetising, fills the gap, and leaves the delegates feeling refreshed and alert.

At Holiday Inn, we pride ourselves on the high quality of our conference facilities. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our service, and to this end have introduced a new menu, designed to aid alertness for meetings rather than detract from it, at many of our conference hotels.
