subject: Network Marketing's 7 Big Lies And How To Overcome Them By Dan Lambeth [print this page] First I want to start with a few facts and you can google these for your research.
97% of network marketers fail and the #1 reason for this is these lies give a false impression of the work needed to succeed in network marketing and therefore new prospects do not get the marketing training they need.
The average network marketer only lasts about 2 months and the average amount earned is around $10 a week.
The first lie could be the most damaging but all of them contribute to these averages. These are maybe the most used and the most damaging ones being used and what you can do about it.
#1 The three foot rule or everyone wants to start their own business.
This lie has really given the industry a bad name. Everyone is not a prospect. There are many people that are happy just being an employee. Maybe they don't like risk or feel that they don't need to be making lots of money.
When you go prospecting and pestering others, you are viewed as a nuisance. When you position yourself to be found by those who are looking, you are seen as an expert or leader.
#2 The product is so good it will sell itself or it's not really like sales, it's more like sharing.
This lie does two things. 1. help the company sell more product because to share you will buy more than you are using. 2 It gives your prospects the wrong idea about the business. If they think they do not have to sell then they won't get trained on proper sales techniques and when reality sets in, they will quit.
If you want to be successful in this business, you need marketing training. Industry leaders are not experts on the products, they are experts on the prospects wants and needs.
#3 This is for anybody or it is so easy anyone can do it.
Do you think a stay at home Mom with no work or mlm experience has the same chance to succeed as someone who has been in sales for 20 years or owns one or several businesses? Anybody can do this but some people will have skills that will give them an advantage over others.
#4 I can even build your business for you.
When someone tells you this and says there is no selling or recruiting you should automatically know this is nonsense. If you don't have to do anything and this is appealing then you think you are getting something for nothing and you are a lazy bum.
Mlm companies need you because you have your own network of people. Even though there are automated systems that you will need to be successful those systems need an operator and no system can manage people which is what you need to grow your business.
#5 Our product is the best product ever and everyone needs it.
If you had a truckload of product in your driveway, you could not sell it without marketing. A mediocre product with a great marketing plan will always outsell a great product with a mediocre plan. For proof, think about McDonalds. The burgers are not the best but they sell billions.
#6 You must believe you can before you will or you need a big enough WHY.
If you wanted to make a hole, what is best a hand drill or a power drill? With a hand drill, you need more motivation, strength and time. With a power drill, your job is easier and has nothing to do with why or how bad you want the hole. With mlm, it's the same thing. The right system and training will get you there quicker.
#7 Just do what your upline is doing or we have a proven system.
When the system involves these lies, they have only proven one thing-97% of all who use them will fail.
Remember when I said a great marketing plan with an average product will outsell an average plan with a great product? The same applies to your overall business plan. An average message to an interested audience will outsell a great message to an uninterested market.
