subject: Is there really free money out there [print this page]

The lottery, scholarships, grants, inheritance; these are all, for lack of a better term, sources of free money. Just look at the amount of lottery tickets purchased every day, and you can see that everyone is scrambling for free cash. Is it really free, though? Even to win the lottery, you need to buy a ticket. So, basically you had to pay a dollar to win a million. Not a bad trade off, no, but still it is not free. Is there free money to be had? It depends on your opinion of free. Maybe no one is going to walk up to you and hand you a wad of cash, of course, it could happen, but it is not likely, and maybe no unknown relative is going to pass away and leave you a million dollar inheritance, but with a little work you could get a little "free" money for yourself.

There are sights designed to direct you to free money in the form of grants. Grants are sums of money given to individuals and groups to be used for specific purposes. In order to obtain these grants, these individuals may have to write a proposal, outlining the need and purpose for the grant. They may have to submit a business or organization plan, to make sure that their business or organization fits the grant's specifications. There are also scholarships which are large sums of money given to students who are attending school. These scholarships are normally applied or auditioned for, and usually the recipient of the scholarship is required to major in the field or subject that the scholarship was given for. A person who auditions for a Musical Theatre scholarship is normally required to major in Musical Theatre. It depends on your definition of free, but there can be free money to be had.
