subject: Lawyers: You Can't Live Without Them [print this page] "A Lawyer will do anything to win a case, sometimes he will even tell the truth." - Patrick Murray. This is not a very good citation but lawyers do know how to take the punches.
Lawyers work by interpreting the law and they are referred to as attorneys in their profession. A quarter of all the lawyers are self employed either as head honchos of law firms or may be working as partners and associates; there are those that do solo practice.
They can act as advisers to clients and help them take the proper course of action concerning their affairs. The lawyers will see to it that everything that their clients do are in accordance with the law. Or in short, they are legal.
Lawyer's main preoccupation is to defend the civil rights of their clients. He will always argue on the premise "innocent until proven guilty". He can be the prosecuting attorney or the defending council.
Lawyers are like money. Nothing moves in society without money just like no important undertakings should be done without a lawyer.
The legal system has become so complex that it is always expedient to contact a lawyer before embarking on anything. They are experts of the law and they never stop doing research on how to go about the intricacies of the laws to serve their clients better.
Lawyers are bound to defend their clients even if they are allegedly guilty by all appearances before the litigations even begin. This s the reason why the profession of law practices is most of the times so misunderstood.
In fact stories about there are no lawyers in heaven have become the butt of jokes. The story is about St. Peter arguing with Satan concerning the boundaries between heaven and earth.
St Peter threatened to sue Satan because of Hell's ever moving boundaries. Satan just laughed and told him that he, Satan, has all the lawyers in Hell.
So much for the stories, when not working solo or employed in private sectors, most of the lawyers work with the government. The job of being a state attorney is a much sought for position for government lawyers.
Politics play a big part to attain that post. The epitome for government lawyer to achieve is the attorney general's job. Failing to attain such status in the meantime, most government lawyers work as prosecutors and public defenders.
If you want to contact government lawyers, they most of the times found at the public defender's office. Their job is to defend the public.
We have also lawyers employed by associations that extend legal help for certain disadvantaged individuals in the society. These societies help battered women, abused children, minorities and several others.
A lawyer's errand is never done. The new legislated laws and the amendments thereon, have driven the task of practicing law into more specializations than ever.
What are some fields of specialization? Some of the fields are Civil Rights; Corporate and Securities Law; Criminal Law; Education Law, and Tax Laws.
Each specialization has each own details of work description though sometimes they overlap with each other. Just like other jobs that has the public interest as their main concerns; lawyers need to pass the licensure exams.
The bar exam is one of the toughest, if not the toughest, of all licensure exams in the country. Some countries require lawyers to accomplish certain number of hours attending seminars and trainings before they are allowed to renew their licenses.
Due to intense competition, lawyers have resorted to "custom videos". These are internet online websites where professionals advertise themselves.
This is one kind of promoting one's profession and is much cheaper than advertising on TV's and newspapers. More and more professionals are using this mode to boost themselves up.
There are several technologies available for lawyers to help improve their knowledge and thereby improving their chances of doing their jobs better including winning their cases. Personal computers and laptops are making their research much easier.
They can easily surf the internet for additional knowledge on their fields of expertise. There are DVDs for sale which delves into cases and gives enlightenment on other topics.
Lawyers don't even need to buy many books anymore. Portable e readers can easily supply the lawyers some of the things they need to read anytime and anywhere by just pushing some buttons.
Lawyers will always be around to help. They will do so willingly if you can afford them. Some are more expensive than others because others are better than some.
