subject: Saving Money or Time Through Relocation [print this page] Your day is filled with big decisionsYour day is filled with big decisions. As an entrepreneur, each day is filled with meeting with clients, talking with China manufacturers and evaluating day to day operations. When was the last time that you thought about your business location? Often business owners don't consider relocation, but in reality it can sometimes be a huge benefit to your company.
Why is your business in its current location? You probably chose your current location for a reason. These reasons may be reason enough to stay. However, you may find that other locations have more benefit to your business than where you are right now. If you haven't reconsidered your location lately, take time to reevaluate. You may just find a better situation. Or you may find that moving isn't worth the hassle and that you are happy where you are. Either way, it is always a good idea to keep yourself aware of the possibilities for your business.
One great reason to move your business is to make things more convenient for you. Would moving your company mean a shorter commute? This could really be a great benefit. If you spend less time on the road, you will have more time to work, or spend at home. An hour a day can really add up quickly and if you spend long hours on the road, a move might be in your best interest.
Another reason to move is to find a better situation somewhere else. Some businesses find that by moving to a different state, they can save money. Sometimes a simple move will result in lower shipping rates, cheaper labor or lower taxes. Every penny counts in business, so if you can save enough, you might want to consider making the move. The best way to figure this out is to meet with your accountant or lawyer. They can help you understand which location and situation is best for your business. Also talk with key staff and see if they have any great ideas. Take a few hours and figure out where your best location is. It might be right where you are, or it may be somewhere else. Make sure that a move isn't in your best interest. After all in business any advantage is important.
