Become educated about the area regarding road rules, language and the exchange of money. Learn a few phrases of the language if you don't know it, like bathroom, help, hospital, and police, this will make it easier to get around.
You'll want to plan on travelling with travellers checks and cash because fees on your debit card could be expensive. Do bring it on the trip but check with your bank to see what the costs will be for transactions you make in the other country. When you pack the cash and travellers checks be sure to split them up in different locations so that if one bag is lost or stolen you still have the other one.
