As kids we used to watch our dads working away in their little office furniture cubicles like ants who dutifully manage the one or two assigned to them, thinking nothing about themselves. Did they seem to be happy with their work? That kind of office environment seems like drab and gray to us today. The tables and desks lacked character, with the usual heavy metal chairs which were too small to be of any real use. Everything seemed institutional and bland. Of course the directors office was different. He was the boss so he got to enjoy the perquisite of having his own office with no boring office furniture in there. His cubic seemed so big and impressive with leather studded chair and tall wall shelves full of important looking books; extra tables and chairs, and even a couch. The desk stacked with file folders and papers to emphasis the importance of his position. Our fathers longed for those huge windows which blew in fresh air and those comforts which a director or the boss used to enjoy.
